Professional painters arrive ready to work, but there are things only the homeowner can do to make the project run smoother, faster, and with less disruption. This checklist has been refined over a decade of projects in the Lowcountry.

2 or More Weeks Before the Project
Finalize your color selections. Last-minute color changes can delay a project by days. Confirm your project scope in writing, what rooms, what surfaces, what finishes. Schedule any other trades that should happen before or after painting. Notify household members affected by schedule impacts.
One Week Before
Remove art, mirrors, and wall-mounted decor. Begin moving furniture toward the center of each room or into adjacent spaces. Make arrangements for pets, both their safety and comfort. Paint smells are unpleasant for animals, and an anxious dog around ladders and open paint cans is a risk for everyone.
Day of Arrival
Ensure all rooms to be painted are accessible. Point out any specific concerns, a sensitive hardwood floor, a fixture you want protected, a wall repair you noticed since the estimate. Plan for ventilation: crack windows where possible and minimize through-traffic in freshly painted areas.
