That longevity means we have seen nearly every wall condition and project scenario the Lowcountry can produce, and we have a long track record of completed projects and satisfied clients you can reference before hiring us.

What areas do you serve?

We serve the full Lowcountry region: Bluffton (our primary base), Hilton Head Island, Okatie, Hardeeville, Sun City Hilton Head, and Beaufort on a project-by-project basis. If you are outside these areas but nearby, contact us - we evaluate out-of-area projects on a case-by-case basis.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Luna Drywall and Paint is fully licensed in the state of South Carolina and carries comprehensive general liability insurance and workers compensation coverage. We are happy to provide proof of insurance and licensing upon request. Working with an uninsured or unlicensed contractor puts you, your property, and the workers on your site at financial and legal risk. It is a question worth asking every contractor you consider hiring.

Do you offer a warranty or guarantee on your work?

Yes. We stand behind every project with a satisfaction guarantee - if something is not right, we make it right. The specifics of our workmanship warranty vary by project type and scope and will be detailed in your contract. For paint specifically, we defer to the manufacturer warranty on the products we use. Premium brands like Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams carry their own product warranties that cover defects in the paint itself.

Can I see examples of your work before hiring you?

For larger projects, we are happy to arrange a visit to a recently completed job (with the homeowner's permission) so you can see the finish quality in person. Nothing communicates craftsmanship better than standing in the room.

What types of drywall work do you do?

We handle the full range: new construction drywall (hanging, taping, finishing, and texturing), addition and remodel drywall, drywall repair (holes, cracks, water damage, impact damage), texture matching (orange peel, knockdown, skip trowel, sand float, and smooth), ceiling work (flat, tray, vaulted), moisture-resistant installations for bathrooms and high-humidity areas, and Level 5 smooth finish for high-end residential and commercial applications.

How do you make drywall repairs invisible after painting?

Accepted Answer

Invisible repairs are a product of good technique at every stage. We apply multiple thin feathered coats rather than trying to fill a deep repair in one pass. We replicate the existing texture precisely using the correct application technique - not just similar materials. We always prime the patch before the final coat; unprimed compound absorbs paint differently than the surrounding surface, making patches visible even after painting. We feather texture and compound well beyond the repair edge so there is no visible transition line.

What is the difference between drywall, greenboard, and cement board?

Standard drywall is right for most interior walls and ceilings in conditioned, dry spaces. Greenboard (moisture-resistant drywall) has a water-resistant paper facing appropriate for bathrooms and laundry rooms - though it is not waterproof and should not be used in shower surrounds. Cement board (HardieBacker, Durock) is appropriate for tile substrates in showers, tub surrounds, and floor applications. In the Lowcountry's coastal humidity, we often recommend cement board in bathrooms even behind areas that do not see direct water contact.

Question 9

My walls have a lot of nail pops. Do I need to replace the drywall?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, no. Nail pops are very common in homes built more than 15 to 20 years ago as wood studs dry and shrink. The repair process: we re-seat or replace the fastener with screws, apply compound in two or three thin coats, sand smooth, prime, and paint. When done correctly the repair is completely invisible. The exception: if pops appear in unusual patterns or are accompanied by cracking, we will take a closer look at the framing before starting surface repairs.

Can you match the existing texture on my walls after a repair?

Texture matching is one of the services we take the most pride in. On spray textures like orange peel and knockdown, we test our settings on a sample board and compare against your wall before committing. We adjust air pressure, material viscosity, and application distance to match pattern size and density. On hand-applied textures like skip trowel, it is a craft skill that comes from experience. Complete invisibility depends on lighting conditions - in rooms with harsh raking light, we will tell you honestly what to expect before we start.

Do you provide the paint, or do I need to supply it?

We handle everything. Materials are included in our project pricing unless you specifically request to supply your own. We source premium paints from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams and pass along our contractor pricing, which is typically lower than retail. If you have a specific product you prefer, we are happy to work with it - just let us know during the estimate.

How many coats of paint do you apply?

Our standard is two finish coats preceded by a primer coat where the surface warrants it. Two coats of quality finish paint provides proper coverage, color depth, and hide. A single coat is never adequate for a professional result - it will show lap marks, uneven color, and inadequate hide, particularly over color changes or repaired surfaces. In some situations three coats are necessary, such as dramatic color changes or surfaces with significant staining.

Do you paint cabinets? What does that process involve?

Yes - cabinet painting is a specialty service we offer for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and built-in cabinetry. Doors and drawer fronts are removed and painted separately. All surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and degreased. Surfaces are sanded to create mechanical adhesion. A bonding primer is applied - standard primer is not appropriate for factory-finished cabinet surfaces. Two coats of a professional-grade cabinet finish are applied using waterborne alkyd or catalyzed lacquer systems that cure to a hard, durable surface. A proper cabinet paint job takes 3 to 5 days for a full kitchen and lasts 8 to 12 years with proper care.

Will you help me choose paint colors?

Yes - color consultation is included as part of the estimate process for clients who want it. We will walk through your space, discuss your goals, lighting conditions, and existing furnishings, and offer guidance on palettes that will work in your specific environment. We are experienced with the Lowcountry light conditions that make color selection different here than elsewhere. We always encourage purchasing sample pots and testing final candidates on your actual walls before committing.

How do I make my paint job last longer?

Wait at least two weeks before washing walls after application - paint is dry to the touch quickly but fully cures over 30 days. Use gentle cleaners; harsh abrasives damage even durable finishes over time. Touch up promptly; small scuffs fixed quickly prevent larger issues. Keep a small labeled container of your finish paint stored upside-down to maintain the seal. Control humidity with maintained HVAC systems and working bathroom fans. Address any leaks immediately - water infiltration is the single biggest killer of paint jobs.

Is your estimate really free? What does the process look like?

Yes, estimates are completely free with no obligation. We schedule a time to visit your property - we do not quote from photos or square footage alone. During the visit (typically 30 to 60 minutes depending on scope) we walk the space, assess surface conditions, discuss your goals, and answer questions. We provide a written estimate within 24 to 48 hours detailing scope, materials, timeline, and pricing with no vague line items or hidden charges. A proper in-person estimate benefits both of us by ensuring we quote accurately for your actual conditions.

What factors affect the cost of a painting project?

The most significant cost drivers are: square footage of paintable surface area (not floor area); number of coats required; surface condition and prep required; ceiling height; scope of trim work (walls only vs. walls, ceilings, and all trim, doors, and windows); paint and material specifications; and access complexity such as tight spaces, stairwells, or exterior elements requiring scaffolding.

Do you require a deposit? What are your payment terms?

Our payment terms are clearly laid out in your contract. For most residential projects, we require a deposit at contract signing to cover materials and schedule the project, with the balance due upon satisfactory completion. For larger commercial or multi-phase projects, we structure progress payments tied to project milestones. We do not require full payment in advance - any contractor who insists on full upfront payment before work begins is worth carefully evaluating. We accept check, bank transfer, and major credit cards.

Can I get a rough price over the phone before scheduling an estimate?

We can give you a broad sense of range based on your description of the scope, but we are honest about the limits of that. A phone number is always an educated guess - the actual cost depends on factors we can only assess in person: surface condition, ceiling height, existing finish quality, access, and the specific products that are right for your situation. We would rather give you an accurate number after a site visit than a low phone estimate that ends up being wrong.

How far out are you typically booked?

Our availability varies seasonally. Demand in the Lowcountry peaks in spring and early fall. During those periods, we may be booked 4 to 8 weeks out for larger projects. Smaller repairs and single-room work can often be fit into the schedule more quickly. If you have a deadline - a closing date, a renovation milestone, or a seasonal event - let us know upfront and we will do our best to accommodate it.

Question 21

Do I need to be home while you are working?

You do not need to be present during the work. Many of our clients provide access and check in at the end of each day or at the final walkthrough. We are a professional, bonded crew and you can trust us in your home without supervision. We do ask that someone is available briefly on the first day to confirm scope and access arrangements, and we always schedule a final walkthrough with the homeowner before we consider a job complete.

What happens if unexpected issues are discovered during the project?

We stop, document what we found, and contact you before proceeding with any work beyond the original scope. You will never come home to a bill significantly different from your estimate without having approved the change in advance. If additional work is needed, we explain what we found, what it will take to address it, and what it will cost - and you decide how to proceed. No pressure, no assumptions, no surprises on the final invoice.

Yes - property management and HOA work is a significant portion of our commercial business. We understand the specific requirements of managed properties: consistent quality standards across multiple units, responsive scheduling for tenant turnover, and the ability to work within the administrative structure of a management company. We serve several HOA communities throughout Bluffton and Hilton Head and have ongoing relationships with property managers who rely on us year-round.

Can you work after hours or on weekends to minimize disruption?

Yes. We offer after-hours and weekend scheduling for commercial projects where business operations cannot be interrupted. We have painted restaurants between closing and morning prep, office suites over long weekends, and retail spaces overnight to hit Monday morning openings. Off-hours work is scheduled as part of your project contract and priced accordingly.

Do you handle new commercial construction drywall and finish work?

Yes. We work directly with general contractors on commercial build-outs and new construction throughout the Lowcountry. Our commercial experience includes tenant improvement build-outs (office spaces, retail suites, medical offices), restaurant and hospitality interiors, multi-family residential construction, and commercial renovation and remodel. We are experienced reading commercial plans, working within GC scheduling frameworks, and meeting quality standards required for commercial certificates of occupancy.
